When Brandi looks at websites, she sees more than text and images. "There are layers of hard work and creativity, from the most stunning graphics to the smallest line of coding. On the surface, there are the visible elements of a webpage. Even the slightest change in these fonts or colors can impact a website's appeal to potential customers. Then there are the parts that nobody can see, but that are just as significant – the coding and image drafts that exist behind the scenes," states Brandi. As a web designer, bringing all of these elements together has been Brandi’s greatest challenge. Her web design training began when she was 13 years old with her twin sister, Caitlin. They have had the privilege of working on their school district website which led to a job designing a Church’s website. This past year, Brandi placed second at the state Web Design Team competition! She also received the Best of Show Award in Web Design for a project she worked on throughout the school year. Most importantly, Brandi has learned to view websites as both a consumer and designer, analyzing both the obvious and unseen aspects of the Internet. Brandi says that school websites are a unique tool for communicating information and she plans to continue influencing technology.
The students were not given any training. They had a training manual developed for the scholarship program and access to eSchoolView’s online video tutorials. Support lines and email access was available for any questions but Brandi did not need additional assistance. Brandi expressed, “Working with eSchoolView’s content management system was fairly simple. At first it took some getting used to, but I liked how easy it was to add different types of content to my webpage. I thought I would use the training manual, but I ended up not needing it.”
